My best sources for cheap cast-off hardware have generally
been people who are generally engrossed in the Microsoft/Novell
worlds. A lot of people in that world are used to casting off
machines every 9 to 18 months because of the ever increasing
demands of those environments and because a lot of them like to
be 'cool' with the latest hardware. Actually, I think it is
often games that drive their hardware purchases as much as
anything, and Windows games generally require the latest and
greatest hardware to work right. So machines they consider
outdated will often work great for Linux because it is generally
more efficient and more tunable.
