[Cialug] hard drive problem?

I am back onto my quest to get exim running. when I run make, I get the
following message

 hda: read_intr : status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest
Error }
 hda: read_intr : error=0x40 {UncorrectableError }
LBAsect=1217826,sector=1181538
...make: *** [go] Error 2
According to the people from exim.org who responded to a similar  post,
this indicates a hd problem. Is there a way to test my hard drive from
linux? I am running rh6.1 on a p90 16m ram 1.5g hd.
