Agreed... while I think the SETI at home client idea is neat technologically, I have a fundamental problem that it is a waste of time. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but IMHO if life exists elsewhere, it is highly unlikely that it has evolved in a manner anywhere near to ours, and to assume that they would develop a radio wave technology that we would recognized is a huge leap of faith, and has more to do with a fantasy world like the Star Trek universe than with science. It's more likely a buch of gelatinous goo, or some kind of bugs.

That said, I don't know that I feel really excited about the RC5 project either... breaking an encryption. Wee.

Anyone know of a distributed computing project that's doing something like computing the human genome or finding a cure for aids or cancer, or trying to solve some big mathmatical formula?
