i concur with lee. i've bought half a dozen maxtor drives in the last few
years and haven't had problems yet. back in the day, i replaced about 10
2-4 gig wd drives in gateway machines that soured me on them. i don't know
what their quality is like recently, though.
one thing to think about is that wd drives usually have pretty good
rebates or other deals (like free ram, or other stuff). that's along the
same lines as windows nt having the best in-kernel debugger. there's a
reason.
