[Cialug] Re: EDO RAM

The largest EDO 72 pin SIMMs I've seen were 64M (16x32), so in
pairs as they are required to be installed, they make 128M per
bank. Watch out for older motherboards, they may not support
the largest sizes.

EDO 168 pin DIMMs are available up to 256M each, and they install
individually.

As for good places to buy, I can't recommend much better than
what you'll find on pricewatch.com or similar shopping sites
unless you want to do the auction thing (ebay or whatever).

You can expect to pay more per meg for SIMMs than DIMMs, and
more per meg for EDO DIMMs than you would for SDRAM. This is
due to volume. It is sometimes cheaper to trash an old
motherboard and CPU for a new MB, CPU and RAM rather than
pay the prices that upgrading would cost, especially when
you consider how much faster SDRAM (or even more so DDR) is
than old EDO memory, plus the significantly faster clock
speeds of current CPUs, even low end ones. Make sure you
carefully weigh and consider all the options before you leap.
