Most distributions can be made lightweight if you do a custom install and
spend some time trimming out the extra cruft you don't need. The lightest
one i use on a semi-regular basis is Linux Terminal Server Project. I have
it set up at work to run on a few web terminals. All that runs on those
machines is a kernel, X, blackbox, Netscape. Very lightweight for a
graphical distribution. I doubt it is quite what you want though since it
is designed to run the apps on a server and just have them displayed on a
thin client.
