Title: RE: [Cialug] motherboard
Asus A7N266-VM w/Athlon 1800 in my son's pc and he loves it and seems to be stable as a rock. Did have to return 1st motherboard as keyboard connection was broken. Bad news about upgrades is now I want one.

I've been ASUS only for awhile now.  There is an anandtech review of 11 motherboards from about three years ago wherein ASUS, MSI, and IWill were the only ones that didn't crash when put under a 24 hour stress test:

I've had an MSI go bad on me, and I've seen Biostar do the same for a friend.  Generally, the less capacitors on a mobo the better engineered it is.  Intel and ASUS seem to follow this rule.

All this talk of upgrading has me looking too.  I looked at newegg.com (a place
I've done business with before, and recommend them), and they have what looks
like the Asus board Dave C. mentioned for $70.  They also have an XP-2100+
(Thoroughbred core) for $93 w/o heatsink & fan, or $102 with.  Both come with
free shipping.  So shipped, I could get a new mobo and processor/heatsink/fan
combo for $172, shipped.  Has anyone seen any better prices?

I've never used Asus motherboards, I've always gone with DIT specials (Soyo, and
Biostar).  I've heard good things about them, anyone have personal experience?
