Re: [Cialug] installfest preparation

I'm burning ~8 copies of red hat. I'll also have my machine with red hat 9, debian-{i386,alpha,powerpc,m68k}, and free bsd 4.8 and 5.1. I'll try to get mandrake and knoppix downloaded by Sat

Time to start thinking about burning the install CD's for the installfest. We should coordinate this so we don't end up with too many copies of one version, but none of another.

Lauren, have you gotten any feedback yet? I've got about 4 or 5 people that will probably show up.

I will volunteer to burn some copies of Mandrake 9.1. It's 3 CD's for the full install. Mandrake's talking about releasing 9.2, but sounds like it's still a week or 2 out.

From what we've heard from AAFUGIT's recent installfest, and the general distro zeitgeist, I would say we should have CD's burned for :

Mandrake
RedHat
Gentoo
Debian
Linux BBC
Knoppix / Gnoppix

Wouldn't hurt to have some other iso images "on standby" that someone can burn on demand - like Slackware, Suse, and some Mac/PPC distros.

Also, Lauren, you need to verify who will be at the installfest, and make sure you have all of the positions filled - like front desk / greeter, installers for different ditro's, demo's... Also, let us know what time you'll need people there for setup / teardown, and what equipment you'll need.

I will volunteer the use of a 24 port switch. I can also bring my el-cheapo Wal-Mart DVD player for you to play "Revolution OS" on, provided there's a TV or projector available.

As I've said before, I'll have very limited time there - I have a soccer tournament that day. I'm planning to be at the installfest in the morning, and I'll have to leave by about 12:30.
