In this case you might want to try using "apachectl" instead of
"service" since service is kind of an additional wrapper. If it is the
password problem (I suspect so) that may actually pass through the
responses where service just "hangs".
I went through all sorts of fun when I first did a cert. I think I did
up a script to automate it (for RedHat anyway) and I seem to remember
the passphrase thing being a particular sticking point.
